Western Pre-course:

November 30 – December 2 at WinSport COP & Sandman Hotel, Calgary, AB

 

You will need to purchase your lift tickets online on the CADS store after you have registered for Pre-Course to receive the Pre-Course rate. This will only be available until Friday, November 23 after which the price of tickets will go up.

Eastern Pre-course:

Dec. 14 - 16, 2017 at Calabogie Peaks Resort, Ottawa area, Ontario. 

2018 Pre-Course Ski - Session Description

 

Who can come

  • Any Instructor with CSIA Level 1 who registers for CSIA level 2 course

  • New and existing CADS L3instructors wishing to be trained and certified as CADS Course Conductors,

  • Current CADS L1 Course Conductors(CADS L3 Instructors that are certified to facilitate CADS L1 courses)

  • Current CADS L2 Course Conductors(CADS L3 Instructors that are certified to facilitate CADS L1 and L2 course)

Current Level 3 Instructors - 2.5 day 

This is a preparation and evaluation for Level 3 Instructors who are wishing to pursue to be evaluated to become a CADS Course Conductor.

 

During this preparation and evaluation 

  • You will learn how to run preparation sessions and an evaluation course.

  • Review and develop your assessment and development for a Candidate Instructor so that they are ready for their CADS evaluation.

  • Review the new Teaching Methodology-Ski Marking Grids.

  • Learn how to fill in the Marking Grid and how the Study Guide is best used to facilitate the Instructor’s learning.

  • You will review the requirements to be successful for each Marking Grid.

  • Refine your technical understanding and class management strategies.

  • Practice training and evaluation with guidance and debriefing.

  • Based on your performance you will leave with either; development strategies to become a Course Conductor, a Level 1 Course Conductor AND/OR a Level 2 Course Conductor.

 

 

Current Level 1 Course Conductor – 2.5 days 

This is a preparation and evaluation for Level 1 Course Conductorswho are wishing to pursue to be evaluated to become a Level 2 Course Conductor.

Current Level 2 Course Conductors – 2.5 days

Only Level 2 Course Conductors can choose from a variety of session for on-going training and development to enhance skill development.

Intermediate Sitski Skills (Bi/Mono) – All Day

During this session

  • You will review and develop your assessment and development of intermediate sitski.

  • Improving your observation skills and understanding of the technical reference as it applies to CADS methodology.

  • Discuss strategies to develop your students and instructors to the intermediate skills level.

  • Develop your teaching skills for both Bi and Mono ski.

 

Intermediate Visual Impairment Skills – Half Day

During this session

  • You will review and develop your assessment and development of intermediate skiing.

  • Improving your observation skills and understanding of the technical reference as it applies to CADS methodology.

  • Discuss strategies to develop your students and instructors to the intermediate skills level.

  • Develop your teaching and guiding skills.

  • Discuss different tactics for teaching and guiding.

 

Intermediate 3 Track Skills – Half Day

During this session

  • You will review and develop your assessment and development of intermediate 3 Track skiing.

  • Improving your observation skills and understanding of the technical reference as it applies to CADS methodology.

  • Discuss strategies to develop your students and instructors to the intermediate skills level.

 

Intermediate 4 Track Skills – Half Day

During this session

  • You will review and develop your assessment and development of intermediate 4 Track skiing.

  • Improving your observation skills and understanding of the technical reference as it applies to CADS methodology.

  • Discuss strategies to develop your students and instructors to the intermediate skills level.

  

Stand-up Tethering – Half Day

During this session

  • You will review and develop your assessment and development of when to use this tool.

  • Improving your observation skills and understanding of how tethering can be used and when to progress to other tactics.

  • Discuss strategies to develop your students and instructors on how to use this tool.

 

Sitski Tethering – Half Day

During this session

  • You will review and develop your assessment and development of when to use this tool.

  • Improving your observation skills and understanding of how tethering can be used and when to progress to other tactics.

  • Discuss strategies to develop your students and instructors on how to use this tool.

 

Preparing Lv2 Instructor for Lv3 – All Day

During this session

  • You will review the new Level 3 Marking Grid and Study Guide.

  • Review the requirements to be successful for Level 3.

  • You will review and develop your assessment and development for a Level 3 Candidate Instructor.

  

Ski Development – All Day 

 

During this session 

  • Develop your technique and skill concepts.

  • Improving your observation skills and understanding of the technical reference as it applies to CADS methodology.

  • Acquire tools to assess then develop each other.

  • Discuss strategies to use these tools with CADS students.

  • Develop toolbox of ideas based on the needs of your group.

  • Practice assessment and development with guidance and debriefing.

 

Trainer of Instructors – All Day

During this session

  • Focus on tactical understanding and class management strategies (skiing while teaching rather than lecturing while teaching).

  • Advance your use of the learning contract.

  • Build toolbox to better match tactics for various teaching and student situations.

  • Develop your teaching skill set to create tasks and manage situations for precise results.

  • Become a better trainer of instructors by creating tasks that involve different learning styles and develop your decision making skills.

  • Practice training with guidance and debriefing.

 

ME/NI requirements for Teaching Methodology-Ski – Half Day

During this session

  • You will review the new Level 1 and Level 2 Marking Grids.

  • Review the requirements needed to be successful for each marking grid.

  • Cover assessment and development for a Level 1 and Level 2 Candidate Instructor so that they are ready for their CADS evaluation.

 

Crossover to Snowboarding – Half Day

During this session

  • You will discover the similarities and differences between the two sports.

  • You will learn skills to integrate snowboarders into training sessions.

  • You will learn how to help develop the skills of your volunteer Snowboard Instructors to prepare them for a CADS Level 1 Snowboard evaluation.

  • You will learn how to support CADS Snowboarders as a Ski Instructor.

 

 ASD/CI slideshow presentation and on-snow scenarios – Half Day

During this session 

  • You will review the new slideshow (2017 version) presentation.

  • You will cover the on-snow scenarios and how you can use them during the CADS Level 1 Evaluation.

  • Review the ASD/CI Marking Grid and requirements for ME.

  • Discuss why to use them during CADS Level 2 evaluation.

2018 Pre-Course Snowboard Session Description

 

 

Registration Information

  • Individuals interested in the CADS Snowboard Instructor Skills Session must register at the CADS website.

 

  • Individuals interested in the Level 1 Snowboard Course Conductor Certification for NEW Candidates becoming must complete an application form.  (This includes any pre-course attendees from 2016). Click here for application form

 

  • CURRENT Level 1 Snowboard Course Conductors (from 2017) must register at the CADS website and do NOT need to complete an application form.

CADS Snowboard Instructor Skills Session – 2.5 days

The focus will be:

  • Rider improvement

  • Snowboarding skills to prepare for successful handling and tethering of a sitski, including switch riding and the skills of tethering

  • Development of short, concise explanations and clear and accurate demonstrations

  • Development of analysis and improvement skills

 

Level 1 Snowboard Course Conductor Certification for NEW Candidates – 2.5 days

 

The focus will be:

  • Learning trainer and evaluator skills for a variety of learners and learning styles, using pedagogy methodology

  • Learning the teaching methodology for steps 1-6 across all 4 disciplines

  • Learning to facilitate an AOT

  • Learning the use of assessment tools and techniques 

  • Developing sitski skills and knowledge and sitski handling skills

  • Improving tethering skills and knowledge

  • Improving outrigger handling skills

 

CURRENT Level 1 Snowboard Course Conductor Certification Update  – 2.5 day

 

The focus will be:

  • Improving and developing skills as an evaluator

  • Improving and developing tethering skills and how to teach tethering

  • Improving and developing sitskiing skills

  • Improving and developing sitski handling skills and learning end-around manoeuvres

  • Improving and developing VI guiding techniques and how to teach these

  • Improving and developing the ability to teach the use of outriggers
